Rivals to Systematic Training

Timothy McClernon

People Architects, Inc

The problem and the solution. Managers have multiple approaches to choose from in determining how best to develop their workforce and organizational performance. Systematic training is but one option among many development strategies. Advocates of training need to be fully aware of rival choices available to their internal clients as they make choices to support or not support training proposals. These rivals compete for limited resources such as time and budget. Better understanding these alternatives allows human resource development (HRD) professionals to participate more fully in development discussions with decision makers. This article explores these rival alternatives.

Key Words: ADDIE • systematic training • alternatives to training • performance • human resources
